According to the Centers for Disease Control, the National Vital Statistics System, reports that the marriage rate has been declining and continues to decline. Of those who marry the divorce rate has decreased to more than half to less than half in the past 14 years. As such, it appears that those who choose to marry are more committed to staying married. On the downside, there are more single adults in this country than married adults.

  • Number of marriages: 2,140, 272 (49 reporting States and D.C)
  • Marriage rate: 6.9 per 1,000 total population (49 reporting States and D.C)
  • Divorce rate: 3.2 per 1,000 population (45 reporting States and D.C.)

There are more children being born outside the married parental relationship. The structure of family and relationships has changed over the years and the results are proven in the statistics.
